The Iloita Maasai are one of fifteen subsections of the Maasai ethnic group. They live on both sides of the Kenya-Tanzania border. On the Kenyan side of the border, they live in Loita Division, located in Narok County. On the Tanzanian side, they live in Ngorongoro District. Although Kenyan census data put the size of the Iloita Maasai population north of the border at 40,000, it is difficult to know the exact figure due to frequent movement across the border, and most extended families have members on both sides of the border.
